Summer is a time for vacations for many people, but for those with no trips planned, summer in the Cayman Islands can seem long, hot and humid.
There are, however, a number of activities on Grand Cayman that can make spending the summer here bearable and yoga with a view is one of them.
Starting this month, Ashley and Heidi Stafford, in partnership with Align Wellness Studio, will hold rooftop yoga classes.
The Stafford sisters completed their Registered Yoga Teacher 200-hour certification in 2013.
There are two sessions a week; the first one will be instructed by Heidi on Monday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Ashley will instruct the second session on Friday mornings from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. The classes will be held on the roof of 62 Forum Lane, the commercial building in Camana Bay where EY and Cayman National have offices.
Access to the roof of the building is gained using the south elevators, which are on the right when entering from the main entrance, and pushing the fifth floor button. Signs in the lobby help navigate the building.
A maximum of 30 guests per class can attend. To sign up for a session, pre-book a spot through the Camana Bay Visitor Centre. Walk-ins are accepted if the session is not full.
The cost for a single class is CI$15 (cash only) and $80 for six classes, pre-booked through the Visitor Centre.
Heidi says yoga newcomers are welcome and offers a few tips to them.
“Enjoy yourself,”she says. “It might not feel easy at first. Building a yoga practice is like learning a language with your body. It will take some time to build vocabulary, a sense of fluidity and structure in the postures and transitions.”
