The issue of confidentiality in the trusts industry will be a focus of Mourant’s 8th annual International Trusts & Private Client Conference on Oct. 5 at Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa.
The one-day conference will feature more than a dozen local and international speakers from the trusts and private client sector. Keynote speaker Sir Jeffrey Jowell QC, who has advised the Cayman Islands Government on constitutional matters for more than a decade, will address the issue of whether the imposition of registers of beneficial interests on the U.K.’s Overseas Territories represents constitutional overreach.
Other topical sessions during the conference will look at data protection legislation and its impact on trust confidentiality, and a debate session that addresses the “transparency versus confidentiality” issue.
Also on the agenda is a U.K. and U.S. tax update,a round-up of recent trust legal cases relevant to private clients and a session devoted to trust liability to third parties.
