“We create our town like we create a garden. Something that will last. Beyond today. And bear fruit for generation after generation. This is Camana Bay. A place cultivated with the seeds of Caymanian tradition and culture. A place where life unfolds. For Cayman. Of Cayman. A place where life blossoms” – Camana Bay’s “Life Blossoms” Mantra.
Like the garden mentioned in this poetic excerpt from the original “Life Blossoms” mantra, the now iconic Camana Bay logo has survived the test of time. For a decade, the simple design has served as a visual identifier stamped across an endless inventory of the town’s physical and digital communications, from glossy ads and social media posts to wayfinding signs and manhole covers.
This month, and for the remainder of 2017, this timeless brand marque is transformed in honour of Camana Bay’s 10th anniversary. Designed by Dart Real Estate’s in-house creative team, the special edition logo pays tribute to the brand’s visual identity by respectfully adorning it — like wearing a special party hat on your birthday. The addition of the number “1” carefully placed to the left of the circular blossom forms the number “10,” creating an important symbol of endurance and vitality. “Good design helps to express spirit,” says Dart Real Estate President Jackie Doak. “At Camana Bay, we have always been very thoughtful about the role that design plays in how the Town Centre comes to life. It is evident in everything from the architecture to the green spaces to the visual communications, and our brand identity is no exception.”
As an active participant in all aspects of Camana Bay’s original naming and branding efforts, Doak recalls the thoroughness of the process. “We were very methodical in our approach,” she explains. After exploring many promising options, Las Camanas — an early spelling of Cayman recorded over 300 years ago inspired today’s name.
“As for the significance of the logo itself, well, it’s really quite simple,” she says. “The ‘blossom’ is an unassuming interpretation of the Cayman silver thatch palm. It is representative of the humble strength of our island and its people. It is also symbolic of the vibrancy of life blossoming at Camana Bay.”
The hues of blue found in Cayman’s waters inspired the logo’s colours, she adds. Creating an impactful, timeless, versatile and appropriate logo to represent a brand’s spirit, vision and identity is no easy task, but it has become a brand symbol that is likely to be around for decades to come. But this year, the simplicity of the 10-year-anniversary logo will serve as a visual reminder of Camana Bay’s achievements to date. This is a carefully cultivated town, where life has indeed unfolded and where a community has undoubtedly blossomed.
