Books & Books Manager Terry Cleaver says he loves to hear what the shop’s customers think about this Grand Cayman bookstore and to learn about what they’d like to see on the shelves.
“Just as importantly, I want to know what else they think we can do that benefits the community,” he says.
In April, after Hobbies & Books ceased supplying magazines for Grand Cayman, something it had done for decades, Books & Books customers expressed their concern to Terry, who had just arrived on the island.
“I am an avid magazine reader myself and if I miss an edition, I certainly feel that there’s a small, magazine-shaped hole in my life,” he says. “Yes, you can download your periodical via a variety of electronic devices, but just like the printed book, the experience isn’t the same.” Books & Books has been stocking magazines since the middle of June, but Cleaver says it has taken a few months to iron out various glitches and coordinate delivery times from the source vendor.
“We are now in a position to stock the weekly printed editions of ‘Time,’ ‘People,’ and ‘Sports Illustrated,’” he says. “We will of course carry the big hitters like ‘Vogue,’ ‘Elle,’ ‘InStyle,” and ‘Esquire,’ to name a few, but we’ve also diversified our range, too.”
He says Books & Books will also stock magazines dedicated to business, interior decorating, cuisine, hobbies and crafts, science fiction, science, parenting, health and a range of comic books.
“There will also be magazines specifically for kids like ‘Thomas & Friends Magazine’ and ‘Peppa Pig Magazine.’”
If that isn’t enough, Cleaver says Books & Books has access to more than 6,000 different magazines that cover “all eclectic of tastes, hobbies, passions and interests.”
On Oct. 15, Books & Books will launch a subscription gift offer.
“We will offer an electronic or hard-copy version of all the titles that we can order and our customers can purchase a six-month or 12-month subscription on any of the periodicals listed in the catalogue,” Cleaver says. ”We will notify the customer directly when the latest copy of their subscription hits our shelves, which they can then collect from the store.
“We are very excited about being able to offer such a personal service and look forward to making fellow magazine lovers happy.”
