Fulfilling a long-time vision for interior designer Michelle Butler, Design Studio launched a retail website in October 2018.
All of the products sold online are curated by Design Studio’s in-house team of designers, with the process led by interior designer Mia Parres.
Reflecting the same coastal and contemporary style as its elegant brick-and-mortar Grand Cayman shop located in Camana Bay, Design Studio’s retail website allows you to now shop online for living, dining and bedroom furniture; home and wall décor; lighting fixtures; rugs; pillows; linens; and more. There’s even a curated section for office and outdoor furniture and accessories.
“Over the years and throughout projects, we have come to love certain lines and pieces and we are so excited to be able to share that with our clients and customers,” says Parres. “Our goal is to facilitate the most aesthetically beautiful site on which clients can enjoy browsing our product lines.”
The well-organised site has a clean look with easy browsing capabilities, featuring bright photos and accurate descriptions of goods to help viewers understand materials, sizes and textures. An added bonus is that shipping and duty costs are calculated upfront on the site, which removes all guesswork.
“We believe in giving clients what their design heart desires and to leave the shipping and delivery nitty-gritty to us,” says Parres. “We hand-select every item and calculate shipping and duties based off each individual size, scale and price using a formula that we have perfected over the decade in business.”
One of the main goals of launching the retail website was to create more accessibility for clients living on- and off-island. Since many are based overseas, e-shopping is convenient for them.
The design team works with hundreds of vendors, but it’s impossible to squeeze everything onto the showroom floor or into a design presentation. The site is also meant to target new and existing store customers.
“We live in a digital world and our clients and customers love to research and pick the perfect products for themselves,” says Parres. “We are always at the ready to offer any design consultations or other help along the way. Our goal is to help our customers create functional, beautiful and elegant spaces.”
All of the products are shipped directly to Grand Cayman via the United States, with a dedicated team that coordinates consolidations and shipments. The suppliers are based all over the world, including from Europe, Canada, Asia and Central America. Currently, shipping is available only to Grand Cayman and to the store’s sister location in Turks and Caicos.
“Living on an island, you want to make your products as accessible to your clients and customers as possible, so shipping items in and delivering direct to clients helps to keep the momentum of orders and keeps our purchasers happy,” says Parres.
The Design Studio team likes to give a realistic shipping window so that customers can plan and order accordingly. Although lead times vary by supplier, Parres says that case goods usually ship within six to eight weeks from the time of order, while upholstered furniture ships within eight to 10 weeks.
Since its launch, customer response has been very positive, with clients and customers feeling inspired by what they see and can select, Parres says. “We have already delivered our first orders successfully and really look forward to putting even more products up in the next couple of months.”
