Beginning the new year with fresh goals and a hopeful road map to better health is a great way to jump-start your wellness, but you want to avoid falling into the trap of setting resolutions and not seeing them through.
Some easy things that I find our clients have benefitted from involve more of a shift of mindset versus trying to follow hard-and-fast rules. Changing the way you think from an all-or-nothing mentality can make a critical difference. Here are a few simple-to-follow tips to help you ease into your health goals:
Add in plant-based meals/days. There is a lot to be said about avoiding processed and animal-based proteins and meals and there is an abundant amount of research supporting plant-based eating habits, so try to add some meatless meals or vegan meals to your weekly diet.
Drink lots of water. Most people don’t drink enough, especially for our tropical climate. Being hydrated has an effect on your energy levels, digestion, mood and organ function and even impacts your weight. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids per day for men about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids per day
Learn new recipes and cooking techniques. Start the new year off right and take control of your meals. Not only is it satisfying to cook at home, but it can impact your budget positively, too. Consider taking a fun and interactive cooking class at Bon Vivant to learn about different cuisines and methods for the whole family or invest in cookbooks as they are a great resource and a wealth of information for even the novice chef.
