Gelato & Co. ia a Camana Bay gem, nestled in the northern end of the Crescent with a space offering bright, natural light, homey décor and sweet treats galore.
The shop has expanded to now offer twice the airy space, providing plenty of room for its extended range of products and new breakfast offerings, now that it opens at 8 a.m.
The expanded shop includes a show kitchen, which allows guests to watch chefs at work creating the day’s pastries, gelato and drinks, as well as a demonstration counter that offers an ideal spot for cooking classes. There’s also a new display cabinet to showcase the shop’s many offerings.
While Gelato & Co. has spread its wings at its space in Camana Bay, it also continues to increase its global footprint. Now boasting 12 locations worldwide, including the recently opened flagship 3,000-square-foot shop in Milan, Italy, owner Stefano Franceschi has built a gelato empire that doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
“I opened my first gelato shop in 1998, 300 yards from my house in Italy,” he says. Twenty years later, that one shop has become 12, located throughout North America, the Caribbean, England and continental Europe.
“Most of the growth has happened in the last five years, as a result of living here in Grand Cayman,” Franceschi adds. “I feel Cayman is an accelerator for business.”
In Europe, the brand presents as Unico, with the signature gelato quality Franceschi is known for, but with a focus on other offerings like coffee and hot chocolate for when the temperatures dip seasonally.
In North America and the Caribbean, Gelato & Co. waves its brand flag, offering a wide range of sorbettos and gelatos, savoury lunch options, sweet breakfast pastries, milkshakes, coffee, Italian imported goods and more. There is no time to rest; Franceschi is currently focused on the next location, which will be in Houston, Texas, and is slated to open by the end of the year.
