In August of this year, Aon Risk Solutions moved its offices in Camana Bay from the 94 Solaris Avenue Building to the second floor of the 18 Forum Lane Building. One month later, Aon opened a retail office on the ground floor of 18 Forum Lane, next to Cayman Dental & Cayman Orthodontics.
As Deputy Managing Director Nigel Twohey explains, Aon isn’t an insurance carrier, but an insurance broker.
“We sell for all the local insurers,” he says, adding that Aon can sell motor, home, health, marine or any other insurance offered by local providers.
One big benefit of using an insurance broker is that it can get numerous quotes for a customer.
“If you go to Island Heritage, for example, you’re only going to get a quote from Island Heritage,” Twohey says. “We’ll go to four companies and get four different quotes. We do the work for clients so they don’t have to shop around.”
Assistant Vice President Karina Hydes says the benefits don’t stop there.
“We advocate for and on behalf of our client,” she says, adding that this kind of client relationship allows Aon to advise clients. “We have extensive product knowledge, market knowledge and can recommend where to place a client based on their needs and circumstances.”
Because insurance coverage varies a little from carrier to carrier, Aon’s representatives can help customers sort through the nuances.
“Each carrier has its own coverage throw-ins,” says Hydes. “Sometimes it’s not only about price and the best solution for a particular client is not necessarily the cheapest.”
Aon places coverage only with local insurers that are rated by agencies like A.M. Best, Hydes says, noting that in the Cayman Islands, the list of rated insurers includes Island Heritage, BritCay, Cayman First, Caribbean Alliance and Massy United, which opened a Grand Cayman office earlier this year.
Twohey says Aon has always welcomed walk-in customers, but that when the office was located on the second floor of the 94 Solaris Avenue building, some people didn’t realise they could walk in for service.
“The ground floor is much better located for our walk-in customers,” he says. “It’s a convenience for everyone who visits, works or does business here at Camana Bay.”
In addition to being able to pay a bill at the new retail office, Twohey says they can also get a quote for insurance.
“We’ll take your information, plug it into the computer and give you a quote while you wait.”
