Wine without food is just a beverage. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy wine on its own, but when combined with food, wine becomes part of a meal, no different in its importance than ingredients like salt, pepper, hot sauce or garnish.
Recognising that something was missing in its offerings at West Indies Wine Company, the shop recently expanded its food menu with seven different flatbbreads to give customers something to snack on while they drink any of the 80 wines it has available in taste sizes, half glasses or full glasses.
“Our customers asked for more food choices,” says West Indies Wine Company manager Eric Schwandt. “We’ve delivered by giving them a selection of delicious flatbreads
to choose from.”
The flatbreads, which are made fresh on-site, include Parmesan & Garlic, BBQ, Salami, Greek, 3 Cheese & Mushroom, Tomato Florentine and Nutella, a sweet option that includes sliced banana and strawberry compote.
The new flatbreads add to the snack menu that also includes cheese and charcuterie options, olives, almonds and pistachios.
All food selections are ordered and paid for at the counter and the West Indies Wine Company staff then serves the food to the customer. A 15 per cent service fee is added to bill.
Schwandt says the expanded food menu helps enhance the enjoyment of West Indies Wine Company’s wines.
“Most wines show their best when combined with food and there are enough options in the flatbread menu to allow for good pairings with any of our wines.”
