Three new speciality stores have landed at Owen Roberts International Airport offering travellers duty-free items ranging from spirits and Champagne to cigars and fine jewellery.
Island Jewellers was the first retailer to open its doors in the new departures lounge and has been impressing outgoing passengers with the latest designer sunglasses and jewellery from world-renowned brands, as well as unique souvenirs.
Among its bestsellers so far are the necklaces with pendants in the shape of Grand Cayman and the Ocean Fire Opals collection, which are exclusive to Island Jewellers and have proven to be a huge hit with visitors looking for something special to remind them of their stay. The store dazzles with sleek showcases displaying an incredible selection of bespoke and exclusive pieces available at attractive prices thanks to duty-free discounts of up to 30 per cent. The shop also accepts Polyn cards, meaning customers can accumulate valuable points with their purchases.
Churchill’s Cigars, which is in its third decade of operating in the airport, recently opened a new concept store in the departures lounge that marks the retailer’s latest expansion following the opening of a new location at the Island Plaza in George Town. The custom-designed boutique at the airport offers the same range of authentic Cuban cigars — as well as gift sets, bulk boxes and accessories — as its George Town location. The airport location is currently the only place on Grand Cayman where residents and stay-over guests can take advantage of duty-free prices on cigars.
Duty-free liquor is now also available in the airport departures lounge and the shop is open from the first flight in the morning. It features the world’s most famous spirits brands, all available at great duty-free prices. The store is part of a joint venture between BlackBeard’s and Jacques Scott that aims to deliver an elevated retail experience for travellers as they leave the island.
Mat Bishop, chief executive officer of Island Jewellers and Cayman Distributors Group, said there’s been an overwhelming positive response to the new stores.
“Our stores at Owen Roberts International Airport look absolutely stunning,” he said. “We hope to continue to cater to both residents and visitors to Cayman and ensure we have shopping locations where our customers want us and expect us to be, as we further develop our retail business across the islands.”
