The 2019 Camana Bay Corporate Football League starts next month and the league already has a full complement of eight teams signed up, says Dart’s Shalisa Barnett, the league coordinator.
“We would have liked to accommodate more teams, but there just weren’t enough time slots on the fields,” she said.
This year’s teams include defending champion Dart, PwC, MUFC, CNB, Fidelity, Walkers, Maples and Knighthead.
However, since each team is allowed by the rules to outsource up to three players not working for the company putting in the team — as long as they meet certain eligibility criteria — there’s still a chance for avid footballers not working for one of the eight companies represented in the Corporate Football League to find a team to play on.
Barnett said a number of changes have been made to the league rules since last season.
“Many of the adjustments came from feedback to a survey we sent out to last year’s participants,” she said. “The responses were very insightful and greatly appreciated.”
Because the Camana Bay Corporate Football League is a co-ed programme, each team is required to have two female players on the field at all times. For every female player less than two not on the field, the team will have to play short by that many players. For example, teams with only one female player on the field can play with only 10 players instead of the usual 11. In addition, at least one female player must play half the game or the team will forfeit.
There is no limit to the number of Cayman Islands National Team Players who can play on any given team if the players are employees of the team’s company. However, only two National Team players who are not employees of a team’s company can play on any given team.
All the games will take place on the Camana Bay Sports Complex field, with most games played on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings. Games will generally start at 6 p.m. or 7:30 p.m., although there are occasional games starting at 5:30 p.m. There will also be an occasional game scheduled on a Monday night.
