Slow Food International’s Terra Madre Day celebration is coming to Camana Bay!
Each year since 2009 on or around the anniversary of Slow Food International’s incorporation, its chapters around the world are asked to celebrate local eating, agricultural biodiversity and sustainable food production in some way. Cayman’s Slow Food South Sound joined in on the global initiative in 2010 and have presented a Terra Madre Day Harvest Dinner every year since. This will be the first year that it will be held at Camana Bay, with Abacus serving as the venue.
The 2016 Terra Madre (Mother Earth) Day event calls special attention to Slow Food’s first international fundraising campaign called “Love the Earth, Defend the Future”.
Although Slow Food Terra Madre Day is Saturday, 10 December, Slow Food South Sound will hold its celebration the day before, on Friday, 9 December, starting with a create-your-own farm-to-table welcome cocktail and passed canapés.
The three-course meal that follows will feature farm-fresh vegetables, local fish and local pork belly. Guests will have a choice between a selected red or white wine to accompany their meal. A selection of desserts ends the evening.
