The annual Camana Bay Corporate Tournament brought together teams from entities operating in the Town Centre for a day of fun playing golf and pickleball while raising over CI$21,000 for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society to support the invaluable services the organisation provides to the community.
“Community is vital to us at Camana Bay, and it was great to see so many of our corporate tenants come out for a round of golf, a few rounds of pickleball and, of course, to raise funds for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society”, said Jeffrey Wight, Dart senior property manager.
The event was held at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman on 20 February and featured pickleball for the first time. The total sum raised was a combination of direct sponsorships and a matching amount from Dart, the developer behind the new urbanist town centre of Camana Bay. Sponsors included Appleby, Aureum Re, Bridgestream, Knighthead Annuity, Leeward Management, North End Re and RBC Royal Bank.
Wight explained the rationale behind supporting the local non-profit organisation. “World Cancer Day was recognised in February and we thought it was more than fitting to donate the funds raised through the tournament to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society. This donation allows us to make a collective impact from the Camana Bay corporate community, as we all know someone who has been impacted by cancer,” he said.
“Every year, I am truly touched by the generosity of our corporate tenants during the Camana Bay Corporate Tournament. A special thank you goes out to all who chose to co-sponsor this year’s tournament with us, which made this our biggest year for funds raised,” said Kristy Rivers, Dart senior vice president sales and leasing.
“We pride ourselves on creating a vibrant environment where our tenants and employees are inspired to maximise their potential in one of the most beloved locations on island. To witness the camaraderie and competition as players took a day away from their offices was a true demonstration of the community spirit that exists at Camana Bay, which offers the perfect balance of live, work and play,” Rivers added.
The golf tournament saw fierce competition with the Aureum Re team emerging victorious, with golfer Jim Owen also claiming the title of closest to the pin. Second place went to Aon’s team, while third place went to RBC’s team. Additionally, Louise Somers of Mourant was recognised for having the longest female drive and Brian Nounev of Alvarez & Marsal was recognised for the longest male drive.
Ogier dominated the pickleball competition with a pair of teams taking first and second place, followed by North End Re, who took home third place.
“We were delighted to be chosen as this year’s charity for the Camana Bay Corporate Tournament,” said Shorline Blanchard of the Cayman Islands Cancer Society. “We offer various services to individuals in the community who need assistance accessing treatment after receiving a cancer diagnosis.”
Blanchard added, “Early detection is the most crucial factor in identifying the early signs of cancer, and we are proud to continue providing vouchers to individuals who qualify for annual pap smears, prostate exams, mouth and throat cancer screenings and FIT kits for colon cancer screening.”
The Cayman Islands Cancer Society provides free educational presentations on cancer awareness and prevention, financial assistance and vouchers for free cancer screenings to individuals with the greatest need.
