Summer is almost over, although Cayman Islands residents might not believe it because of the high temperatures and humidity this month.
The effects of changing seasons aren’t as drastic for those in the Caribbean compared to many other places. This, in turn, can limit the range of clothing you wear in Cayman, but that doesn’t mean it has to be bikinis and shorts all year round — unless that’s what you prefer.
As autumn rolls in this month, we’re taking a look at some of the season’s fashion trends that transcend any climate — and thankfully, they don't involve sweaters, boots or scarves.
DENIM
It’s fair to say that jeans should be a staple in anyone’s wardrobe. They are one of the most versatile types of clothing. However, this season, the fashion industry embraces all the denim, elevating it from staple pants to statement outfits, from designer denim dresses and jackets to patchy retro pants and skirts.
CROP SETS
Who wouldn’t enjoy having an extra bit of island breeze blowing directly onto your body? Cropped sets were a popular feature on the runway for autumn, pairing shorter tops and jackets with midi-length or long skirts or pants. These sets are set apart by the elegance and sophistication they flaunt — some influenced by business and formal suits, though they may be a bit risqué for the office.
SATURATED HUES
Though autumn tends to introduce warmer or muted palettes, the saturation is turned up this year. Vibrant shades are the go-to colours, from magenta and marigold to the brightest blues and greens. But the trend doesn’t stop there: To fully embrace it, you need to mix and match your hues with different layers. You could get away with just a solid colour dress, but why not elevate it with a bright jacket or pair of heels in a complementary colour.
REBOUND TRENDS
Autumn’s fashion trends have made it clear that it is not the season of simplicity. As if the trends listed above weren’t enough, complex '90s prints, delicate '50s lace and dazzling '80s sequins are also thrown into the mix this autumn. Everything eventually comes back in style, right? So rock that shiny New Year’s Eve dress a bit earlier, throw on the craziest patterns you can find or adorn yourself in the luxe of lace this season.
