Commune with the Outdoors and Om the Stress Away with Yoga at Camana Bay

29 August 2018

Yoga by the bay is as peaceful as it sounds. Picture a cool breeze, lapping water and the sounds of a town slowly waking up or winding down behind you…and you have the experience of ‘om’ing the stress away with the sunrise and sunset outdoor yoga classes at Camana Bay.

Camana Bay and Align recently launched weekly yoga classes held on the dock overlooking the Camana Bay Harbour. This new wellness initiative offers many physical and mental health benefits for students and is a great way to get and stay active. There are two classes a week: a soothing sunset class to wrap up Mondays at 5:30 p.m., or an early sunrise class on Fridays at 6:30 a.m. to kickstart your weekend in a Zen state of mind.

Check in for the classes is on the patio just outside Gelato & Co., and the class is open to everyone. For people who live and work in Camana Bay, the location is incredibly convenient as it’s just a simple walk to the harbour, while it’s just a short drive to and from the centre of George Town.

The classes, led by certified yoga instructors Heidi and Ashley Stafford, are designed around flow yoga to build strength and flexibility. In addition to this, maintaining a regular yoga practice helps to create many other physical benefits such as lowering blood pressure, weight loss and protection from injury. Yoga’s incorporation of meditation and breathing also creates mental health benefits such as helping manage stress, sharpen concentration and increase body awareness. Self and body awareness are particularly valuable, as they help with early detection of physical problems and allow for early preventative action.

Size and fitness levels do not matter, as there are modifications for every yoga pose, allowing for every body to get involved in the practice.

Classes are CI$15 for drop ins, which is cash only, and CI$80 for a six-class pass which can be purchased in the Visitor Centre on Market Street in Camana Bay. Classes begin on time and students are asked to bring their own mat. For more information, FAQs and the schedule, visit
