September is Literacy Month at Camana Bay! All month long, children and adults are invited to enter a world of imagination and mystery through reading and, if you work here or have office space in Camana Bay, you have convenient access to all of the action right here in the Town Centre – and visitors can easily stop by with a quick stroll over the Rise.
As children head back to school, Literacy Month is a fun way to teach them the importance of literacy and raise awareness of LIFE (Literacy Is For Everyone), a local charity dedicated to providing literacy programmes and initiatives for children and adults. Literacy Month provides a platform where children will be encouraged to read more, which will ultimately help improve their performance at school and increase their awareness and appreciation of literacy. Literacy Month is also meant to encourage adults to do their part in instilling the significance of reading, which can be done by volunteering for the assisted reading programme with LIFE or taking children to the various events scheduled.
Activities surrounding Literacy Month include weekly themed, classic movies at Camana Bay Cinema’s Kids Club, where the family can enjoy classic films at just CI$5 per ticket. Every Saturday, enjoy free Story Time at Books & Books with local authors as they read their own books, including Georgie and the Stingray by Erin Connelly, Sixteen Chickens on a Trampoline by Faye Lippitt and there will be a book reading and signing by Caymanian actress and celebrity Grace Byers, who wrote I am Enough. While you’re there, don’t forget to have your children tell us what their favourite book is and why, to be entered to win the chance to open an advent calendar door at Books & Books during the holiday season.
Children are also invited to collect a Scavenger Hunt map from Books & Books, which will guide them on an outdoor hunt, searching for clues hidden within Camana Bay. Once they find all the clues, they can submit their completed map to Books & Books where they will receive a 10% discount to purchase their favourite mystery book. Books & Books will also donate 10% of mystery-themed book sales to LIFE. Commemorate your Literacy Month experiences by snapping a photo next to the giant READ sign and posting on your social media with #CamanaBay for a chance to win weekly prizes.
Living and working at Camana Bay offers the convenience of being able to take part in events and activities such as Literacy Month. Join in these family-friendly activities on your lunch break or after work to help balance work life and family time, one of the many reasons why Camana Bay is the perfect place for businesses to set up shop.
