“This year promises to be even better; after launching the Isy B. brand for sale at Sand Angels this June, we are also planning to launch our e-commerce platform and we are in talks with a partner to begin selling into the United Kingdom. This fall, I am excited to have been selected from over 300 emerging designers to show in the United States for the first time.”
Fashion designer Isy Obi has made a name for herself – and for Cayman – on the international fashion scene. From her start watching her mother outfit Nigeria’s stylish elite – including the First Lady – Isy has been passionate about designing clothes, initially sketching her inspirations on paper to create pieces for herself and studying product design at school.
Isy’s collections have grown organically, from her sisters and friends wearing her pieces to the models and stylists at her first portfolio shoot falling in love with her designs. Isy’s big break was showing at Cayman Fashion Week in April 2015 after being inspired by local designer and dressmaker Norma Ebanks to present her first collection.
From here, Isy’s brand is growing from strength to strength. Having already shown during London Fashion Week and at Allure Cayman in 2015, her most recent collection was shown at Cayman Fashion Week 2016, and it is this collection which will be walked on the runway at Sand Angels and Isy B’s fashion event on Thursday, 2 June.
The event, which will raise funds and awareness for NCVO’s Caring Cousins Programme, will celebrate the introduction of Isy’s pieces into Sand Angels, which will be the line’s first retail base in the Cayman Islands. Tickets for the event are CI$25 and are available at Sand Angels. The show runs from 6pm to 8pm and complimentary bubbles will be offered on arrival by West Indies Wine Company.
