Last year, we reached out to some of the faces we see around the Town Centre to find out their Mother’s Day stories. To celebrate 2016, we touched base with them again to find out what their favourite shared memory was in the last year.
One of the Faces we featured last year was Darla Dilbert-Wood and her son Blayze. Blayze let us know that his favourite memory with Mom from the past year was shortly after they moved into their new home.
“About two weeks after we moved in, Mom and I took our first walk together along the beach. I made a new friend (a neighbour’s dog) and spent hours playing with him.” In addition, Blayze told us about a summer trip the pair took to Las Vegas, where he was able to go on rollercoasters and other rides, go shopping and see some entertaining live shows.
Read on for Blayze and Darla’s story, which we first shared last year…
“I need to make sure that I am a good role model to my child. It is my duty to teach him good morals and how to be a leader in society.” Darla Dilbert-Wood and her son Blayze, who will turn 16 this month, are from Cayman. Family is of the utmost importance to Darla and she can track her ancestors back to Cayman through several generations.
As owner and manager of Eclipze Hair Design & Day Spa in Camana Bay, Darla has a very busy schedule. The number-one thing that motherhood has taught her, however, is the importance of keeping her personal and professional life both separate and balanced, despite how challenging this can be. This emphasis on a work-life balance means that when Darla isn’t at the salon she is spending quality time with her son, family and friends and getting some all-important “me time”.
Darla and Blayze have a number of regular rituals just for them – from discussing every topic under the sun on the way to school each morning to watching at least one movie together each weekend and taking an annual summer trip together, they make sure they remain connected.
