Camana Bay is spreading holiday cheer throughout Cayman with its nostalgic, locally produced video. With 55,000 views and counting, you may have seen a little girl named Thandie scootering around the Town Centre filled with excitement for Christmastime at Camana Bay.
However, you might not know that the soundtrack to the video was also entirely locally produced. This remake of It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year (a classic Christmas song written in 1963 by Edward Pola and George Wyle) was recorded by Caymanian singer Jamesette Anglin and produced by Grammy award-winning producer – and Caymanian – Jason Gilbert. Caymanian filmmaker Sean Bodden rounded out the ‘dream team’ as he shot both the Camana Bay Christmas video and the behind-the-scenes look at of the recording of its soundtrack:
With Cayman’s new copyright laws, Jason commented that it was a bit of a challenge to go through the appropriate channels and shared how he managed to license it within 30 days, when normally it can take up to 60 days. Jamesette also mentioned some roadblocks with the song since she is used to slower ballads, however Jason’s melody remake helped her get into the more upbeat vibe of the tune. This particular song was the first of its calibre that Jason received approval on and when asked how it made them all feel, the most-used word was “proud” and they now look forward to seeing more projects like this in Cayman.
The Camana Bay Christmas video was also 100% filmed, produced and edited in Cayman and featured all local talent, from set design and conception/storyboarding to final cuts. It took two days of filming and five days to cut the scenes right and blend the music for a feel-good Christmas message. Enjoy the final results and share in Thandie’s excitement as we count down the remaining days till Christmas!
