#FacesAroundTown: Meet Elphina and her daughters

Last year, we reached out to some of the faces we see around the Town Centre to find out their Mother’s Day stories. To celebrate 2016, we touched base with them again to find out what their favourite shared memory was in the last year.

One of the Faces we featured last year was Elphina Jones and her three daughters Ayanda, Zolla and Lulu. Ten-year-old Lulu (pictured above on the right) shared her favourite memory with Mom from the past year:

“Mum took a friend and me to see Joseph The Technicolour Dreamcoat at Prospect Playhouse the other day. It was brilliant. I was surprised to see some of my teachers were in it. I really enjoyed the singing and the action.” Mom and daughter enjoy catching live theatre together, having also seen Little Shop of Horrors when it was playing.

Read on for Elphina’s story, which we first shared last year…

“The most important part of motherhood for me is building strong and loving relationships which each of our three girls to carry them through life.”

College sweethearts, Elphina and her husband Rob met at Hull University. They moved to Grand Cayman when Rob accepted a job on island as a lawyer. It was here that their three daughters, Ayanda Catrin (then 14); Zolla Evann (then 11) and Lulu Kerys (then 9), were born.

It is important to the couple that they pass on certain values to their daughters and the most important part of being a mum for her is helping her girls become intelligent, spirited and independent young women who care about their community and their planet.

Ever mindful of the importance of spending quality one-on-one time with each of her daughters, Elphina has MODA Days (mother-daughter days) where she does something special with each daughter that they get to choose. From relaxing by the pool to a special spa trip, for her the days are all about ensuring each child gets her undivided attention to keep their bond strong.

As a family the Joneses look forward to Friday pizza and takeout nights followed by a film on TV. Elphina and her daughters spend a lot of time at Camana Bay enjoying the landscaping and courtyards, meals at the restaurants, watching movies at Regal Cinemas with friends and stocking up on the latest books at Books & Books. They rarely leave without grabbing some delicious and refreshing cool treats from Gelato & Co.

All of these traditions are important to Elphina as motherhood has reinforced her belief in sharing and showing those dear to you that you love and appreciate them. The girls are equally adoring of their mother. Ayanda loves that her mom is so approachable and understanding, while Zolla enjoys Elphina’s sense of humour. Lulu loves how cuddly her mom is.
